Melanie Hickman's white, sourced from the Phinca Hapa vineyard in Elvillar, is an intense, high-toned, skin-macerated combination of Viura, 12% Garnacha Blanca and 6% Malvasía. Savoury, complex and appealingly wild, it has layers of beeswax, honeysuckle, sourdough bread, quince and citrus and a spicy finish. 2025-30
The cloudy amber colored 2022 Phinca Hapa Blanco has a strong effect from the extended contact with the skins and is a deep orange wine from Elvillar that was produced with 82% Viura, 12% Garnacha Blanca and 6% Malvasía Riojana from a vineyard planted in 1967. The whole clusters were placed in a large oak vat that was sealed for a few weeks, and when the fermentation finished, it was pressed and let to age in the 2,7000-liter oak vat for one year. It has an intense balsamic and medicinal nose with notes of cloves, bay leaf, quince paste and yellow flowers and fruit with a cider note and hints of some volatility. The palate reveals fine tannins, pungent flavors and a long, dry finish. 2,960 bottles produced. It was bottled in November 2023.
