Descripción

Macán es el vino que reúne bajo una misma etiqueta a la prestigiosa bodega Vega Sicilia con el grupo Benjamin Rothschild, propietario del mítico Château Lafite Rothschild. El proyecto, que comenzó a gestarse hace más de una década, da sus frutos con este Tempranillo que nace en los viñedos de Labastida y San Vicente de Sonsierra. Vino de una añada sin sobresaltos que entrega una nariz exuberante de frutos rojos en sazón y una boca poderosa donde los taninos están presentes sin ser dominantes.

Vista
Gran capa cereza picota con ribetes cardenalicios.
Nariz
Nariz exuberante a frutos rojos en sazón acompañados de finas notas de cedro. Profundo y no evidente.
Boca
Firme y poderoso en su ataque, tiene un paso por boca donde la presencia tánica está presente sin ser dominante. Si deberíamos calificar esta añada hablaríamos de sobriedad y seriedad. Fin de boca largo.
Temperatura de servicio
Entre 17 y 18ºC.
Consumo
Vino con un potencial de guarda de hasta 20 años si se conserva en óptimas condiciones (a entre 12 y 14ºC y sin grandes oscilaciones de temperatura).

Descripción
Viñedos situados a 550 metros de altitud.
Superficie
90 hectáreas (divididas entre Samaniego, Baños de Ebro, Labastida, El Villar y San Vicente).

40 años.
Cosecha
Manual en cajas de 12 kilogramos.
Vinificación
La fermentación maloláctica se realiza al 30% en barrica y el resto en depósito.
Envejecimiento
Entre 16 y 18 meses en barricas de roble francés.

The Wine Advocate:

I tasted the 2014 Macán once again, as they are holding the top wine to give it one more year in bottle before being released. It fermented in oak vats with inoculated yeasts and aged in new barrique for 16 to 18 months. They want to give this cuvée no less than three years in bottle. This 2014 was bottled in May 2016, not quite three years ago yet, but it can provide a good idea of the development the wine is going to have when it's released. It's evolving at a very slow pace; it's a tight red with plenty of tannins, and the time in bottle seems to be doing it good. There is concentration and power, as well as typicity from the variety and the zone, with that austerity from this part of Rioja. It's a serious, modern and nicely crafted Tempranillo with a touch of sweet spices and smoke. It should continue evolving nicely in bottle. This will be released in January 2019. 66,166 bottles, 2,041 magnums, 86 double magnums and 25 imperials were produced in 2014.

James Suckling:

Darker fruit, deeper and more earthy accents on the nose here. Leafy too. There’s a supple palate with plenty of depth, power and smoothly rendered tannins. The depth is impressive here. Great length and resolve. Strong, dark-plum finish. Best from 2020 and for a decade at least.
