The Wine Advocate:

"The 2013 Viñas Viejas de Soria is produced with the fruit from very old vines in the village of Atauta in Soria. In 2013, they used 50% full clusters for the fermentation in open oak vats with indigenous yeasts. The wine was aged in well-seasoned Bourgogne oak barrels for 19 months, yet the wine is not oaky and the bright red fruit is at the forefront with some spiciness and a special stemmy freshness; at the same time, there is nice ripeness and some notes of decayed violets, something earthy akin to malted cereals, quite showy and aromatic overall. With time emerged a citric freshness that made me think of orange peel; blood orange, that is. The grapes were harvested on October 22nd and they were healthy, as this part of Soria behaved very well (as it also happened in another difficult vintage in Ribera, 2002). The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins, a powdery/velvety texture and good balancing acidity. This is approachable now but I think it will develop nicely in bottle. This has a wild character while at the same time it keeps poise and balance. A superb 2013 from Ribera. 3,300 bottles produced".
