What a beautiful nose this suggests of dried tea leaves, earth, tobacco, cedar, five spice, dried cherries, orange zest and Christmas spices. The tannins have a brambly quality to them, but they slip effortlessly into place, around finely indented creases of red-plum and red-cherry flavors. Long and composed, this is a silky, balanced, delightful offering. What a wine from the only cooperative in Montalcino!
Here's a wine I have not tasted in a while. The 2015 Brunello di Montalcino opens to plummy dark fruit with some prominent blackberry and prune folded into the bouquet. Like its peers, this Brunello shows the savory and earthy aromas you get as the wine continues its aging in the cellar and in barrel. By law, Brunello di Montalcino is released five years after the harvest. This is a dark and accessible wine for near and medium-term drinking. About 50,000 bottles were produced.
