Los críticos más prestigiosos han coronado a esta maravilla como uno de los reyes de Napa Valley. Sus uvas nacen de las viñas que plantó hace más de 100 años Georges Latour, el fundador de la bodega, en sus mejores parcelas. Después de una precisa y cuidada vinificación y crianza, el resultado es un vino poderoso y exuberante a la vez que elegante y armonioso. Con una capacidad de guarda realmente extraordinaria, estamos ante de una de las obras de arte del vino californiano.

Nariz
Exuberante y muy expresiva. Enamora con sus potentes notas de frambuesa, de arándano y de cereza junto a los recuerdos herbáceos, de lavanda, de menta y de tomillo y los seductores apuntes de cedro, de clavo y de caramelo que aporta su crianza en roble.

Boca
Poderosa, con cuerpo, con una tremenda concentración y con infinitas capas de sabor. La fruta negra y roja da paso a los sabores de cacao, de amaretto y de café que dejan ver apuntes de grafito. A pesar de esta explosión de sabor, la sensación en boca es fresca, armoniosa y elegante.
Temperatura de servicio
Se recomienda servir a 16 ºC.
Consumo
Hasta 2052 si se conserva en óptimas condiciones.

Viñedo y elaboración

Descripción
Las uvas pertenecen a viñas situadas en la zona oeste de Rutherford AVA, en las parcelas más icónicas de la bodega: BV Ranches No. 1 y No. 2. Estos viñedos fueron plantados a principios del siglo XX por el fundador de la bodega Georges de Latour.

Más de 100 años.
Clima
Esta añada se caracteriza por su fresca y húmeda primavera. Las lluvias de febrero retrasaron la vendimia y durante la floración llegaron las precipitaciones seguidas de temperaturas frescas. Estas temperaturas menos cálidas de los habitual dieron vida a a uvas con una menor cantidad de azúcar y una vibrante acidez.
Vinificación
Una parte del mosto fermenta en barricas nuevas de roble francés; el resto en tanques de acero inoxidable y en depósitos de hormigón para preservar el carácter primario de la fruta. Seguidamente, el vino macera con sus pieles, se prensa y vuelve a las barricas de roble donde tiene lugar la fermentación maloláctica y la crianza.
Envejecimiento
Crianza en barricas de roble. La bodega trabaja con toneleros seleccionados para garantizar el estilo y consistencia de la crianza en roble.

**#1 World Wine of the Year 2022** Wow! The aromas to this are really exceptional, with a tangerine edge to the blackcurrants, graphite, lead pencil, flowers and wet earth. It changes all the time. So expressive and refined. Full-bodied with great intensity and depth of fruit. The ultra-fine tannins display millions of layers. The texture on the palate is superb and lasts for minutes. This is the new 1974 George de Latour, which was a legend. Real Napa Valley red here. Drinkable now, to understand it, but truly great in five to six years and onwards. Benchmark.

Lastly, the Grand Vin 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Georges De Latour Private Reserve is just about pure perfection. Classis darker fruits (cassis, currants) as well as chocolate, leafy tobacco, and loamy earth all define the bouquet, and this full-bodied, concentrated, powerful, yet also elegant 2019 has the balance and structure to evolve for decades. It should be relatively easy to find this in the market, and you won't be disappointed.

Decanter:

Fragranced and richly fruited on the nose, vivid and vibrant. Smooth yet with crunchy fruit, this makes an immediate impression. Exuberant, racy and fruit forward with a sense of detail and character. I like the soft floral touches, the sweet blackcurrants and red berry elements, the chalky, minty fresh edges as well as some wild thyme and bay leaf herbal notes and a soft dusting of coffee and cocoa powder. Lots of tension still but also richness and concentration. The powdery yet also fleshy texture is so captivating and together with a mouthwatering capacity gives this wine such star power. Elegant and refined with supreme freshness and a real sense of vibrancy. That said, it's more serious than the stunning 2018, less immediately approachable - it feels cooler but with more precision. One to wait for. Amazing styling going on by winemaker Trevor Durling. This has to be one of the best value Napa Valley wines going. Ageing 20 months in French oak (95% new). More Petit Verdot in the blend than usual at 9%.

Another stunning vintage of this classic wine, blended with 9% Petit Verdot, this wine is dark and brooding in black cherry, cassis and currant, with a rich nose of baking spice. Lengthy and generous in tannin, it shows a backbone of ageworthy structure and complexity, with a lasting thread of dark chocolate.
