I believe the perfumed and floral 2014 Colección Nº 4 Garnacha de La Dehesa is the first pure Garnacha I tasted from Benjamín Romeo. It was sourced from one single vineyard planted in 1900, fermented in small oak vats with indigenous yeasts and matured in new French oak barrels for 18 months. As with many of the wines here, the fruit is so intense that the 100% new oak regime goes unnoticed. Yes, the wines are smoky and spicy, but the oak is not the main actor on the nose or the palate. Here, there are lots of flowers and wild berries, with contained ripeness, very fine tannins and great freshness that lifts up the wine and makes it very long. 3,000 bottles were filled in May 2016.
