Il Syrah del vigneto Neve, nel comune di Ampuis, ha una posizione super privilegiata sul pendio e viene coltivato in modo biodinamico. È un rosso profondo con caratteristiche intense, soprattutto note di grafite e affumicato. Nella sua prima annata, il 2015, ha ottenuto 97 punti Parker. Un debutto importante per un Syrah della Côte Rôtie estremamente promettente che, secondo la cantina stessa, si presenta straordinario in questa annata 2020

I vigneti sono su un pendio nel villaggio di Neve, nel comune di Ampuis, esposti a sud-sud-est.

Clima
L'annata 2020 nella regione del Rodano ha avuto un ciclo vegetativo simile a quello del 2003, 2005 e 2015, con temperature più alte del solito che hanno fatto crescere la vite velocemente fino alla fioritura. Non si vedevano livelli di stress idrico così alti da 18 anni, ma grazie al lavoro di osservazione e cura del terreno è stato possibile gestire la situazione, migliorando la concentrazione dei livelli di zucchero e acidità. Un'annata che sicuramente regalerà grandi soddisfazioni in futuro grazie al suo potenziale di invecchiamento.
Raccolto
Vendemmia manuale.
Vinificazione
Diraspato. Fermentazione spontanea per 5 settimane con lieviti autoctoni in vasche di cemento a una temperatura non superiore a 30-32 °C. Pigeages. La macerazione si completa con un'agitazione dei lieviti nelle ultime 3 settimane. Passa poi in botte dopo la decantazione e la sedimentazione per 24-48 ore per eliminare eventuali residui solidi e le fecce più grossolane.
Invecchiamento
Invecchiamento tra i 14 e i 18 mesi in botti di rovere francese da 228 litri. Tra il 25% e il 30% delle botti sono nuove.

How is it possible to marry this kind of syrah power with the extraordinary refinement of this Cote-Rotie? It just glides effortlessly over your palate. Then, right at the end, the power creeps up on you and inexorably pulls you into its orbit, as if this was the planet Jupiter. Amazing mineral intensity at the dazzling finish. From a vineyard at the north of the appellation on pure mica-schist soil. From biodynamically grown grapes with Demeter certification. Drink or hold.

Brilliant all the way, and possibly the finest vintage for this cuvée to date, the 2020 Côte Rôtie Nève is 100% Syrah from mica schist soils in the northern part of the appellation and was destemmed and is still resting in 30% new demi-muids. Gorgeous pure cassis fruit as well as crushed stone, graphite, and violet notes define the bouquet, and it’s medium to full-bodied, with terrific concentration, ultra-fine yet certainly present tannins, and a great finish. This structured yet flawlessly put together Côte Rôtie will benefit from short-term cellaring and keep for 15-20 years.

Decanter:

A little spicier and earthier than La Mordorée this year, more savoury. Medium-bodied, precise and dry - packed full of dense, ripe tannins. Very ripe, with a good sense of harmony and integration. Excellent balance. Long finish. Ripe and seductive, without overt oak influence. The alcohol is high but doesn't feel unbalanced thanks to the concentration of fruit.

The 2020 Cote Rotie Neve is really pretty stuff this vintage. Starting with a lovely mix of violets, menthol, cedar, raspberries and blueberries, it has fantastic perfume and lift on the nose, a fine, elegant, medium-bodied palate and a long, silky finish. Bravo.
