Een van de rode pareltjes van Toscane waar de meest toonaangevende critici helemaal weg van zijn. Deze wijn was een echte uitdaging voor Le Macchiole. De wijnmakerij wilde een indrukwekkende wijn maken met veel karakter, die zo ver mogelijk af stond van de zachte stijl die je normaal gesproken associeert met deze druif van Franse oorsprong. Dankzij hun inzet kan Toscane nu bogen op een elegante, diepe, memorabele en tijdloze wijn .&nbsp

Neus
Expressief, krachtig en betoverend. Het heeft aroma's van kersen, cassis en bramen, samen met kruidige, muntachtige, kruidige en chocoladetonen.

Hij heeft zijdezachte tannines, een perfecte zuurgraad, een harmonie van smaken en een lange, omhullende afdronk.
Bedrijfstemperatuur
Het wordt aanbevolen om op 16 ºC te serveren.
Verbruik
Optimaal tot 2045 als je het goed bewaart.
Koppelen
Perfect bij filet mignon, blauwe kaas, gebakken gevogelte en stoofschotels met een vleugje zwart fruit.

Oogst
Handmatige oogst van topkwaliteit. Het begon precies op schema. Eerst werden de witte druiven geplukt in de derde en vierde week van augustus, en daarna kwamen de Cabernet franc en Cabernet sauvignon aan de beurt in de derde en vierde week van september.
Wijnmaken
Gisting in betonnen tanks en daarna 25 dagen maceratie.
Veroudering
18 maanden gerijpt in nieuwe Franse eikenhouten vaten.

Meningen van critici

James Suckling:

This is very complex, offering tobacco, brown sugar, black olives and currants. It’s full-bodied, yet tight and layered, with very fine tannins and a long, structured finish. Hints of new wood complement the long, cool fruit and phenolics. Give this three or four years to open. Try after 2025.

Falstaff:

Powerful, shiny ruby with purple glints. Open and accessible on the nose, charming notes of black cherry, wild raspberry and some cardamom. Very good tension on the palate with fine-meshed tannin, juicy, lots of tangy fruit and with tobacco on the finish.

The Wine Advocate:

Le Macchiole's 2018 Messorio is soft and rich with impressive depth and intensity, all delivered with the softness that only the Merlot grape can manage. This important wine unfolds first to rich cherry and blackberry and then yields softly to secondary notes of spice, baker's chocolate and toasted almond. There is some youthful tightness in the mouth, with Merlot tannins that are hitched to firmness and softness, while showing impressive length all the while. The mouthfeel is most impressive, thanks to its seamless and supple nature that glides smoothly over the palate.

Decanter:

According to Cinzia Merli, producer of Le Macchiole, 2018 vintage is not her favourite. 'We can't compare it with the more red fruited 2017 and the concentration of 2019 is another matter,' she said. Having said that, this is one of her best Messorios of the last few years. On the nose it comes across as slightly herbal, with the leafy character of Merlot, loaded with restrained cassis, lead pencil and earthy clay minerality. Open-knit aromas of menthol are also present. The attack is smooth and velvety, with huge presence on the mid-palate where oaky tannins are still present. Full and refreshing with extremely youthful character.
