Vineyards over 35 years' old in Briñas, Haro, Labastida, San Vicente, Salinillas and Villalba are the source of this foudre and 10% new French barrel-aged Tempranillo. Less oaky than it has been in the past, it has violet, vanilla and clove aromas, lots of tangy pomegranate, plum and raspberry fruit and a long, tapering finish. 2026-35.
Spiced berries, red cherries, plums and a hint of bergamot and vanilla. Firm and medium- to full-bodied on the palate with firm, juicy tannins and plenty of red berries. Long and pretty refined and energetic. 100% tempranillo. Drink or hold. (Zekun Shuai)
The old-vine cuvée 2019 La Vicalanda Viñas Viejas was produced with Tempranillo from 40+-year-old vines in Rioja Alta and was fermented in concrete, followed by malolactic in French oak barrels and élevage in oak vats and barrels for 12 months. It has 14.5% alcohol and a pH of 3.74. It's modern, fruit driven and generously oaked with spice and some creaminess. The fruit is darker and has an earthy touch. 50,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in February 2022. (Luis Gutiérrez)
