L'origine del vigneto è nelle zone intorno a Tournon: Mauves, Saint-Jean de Muzols e Lemps. Il "vino di Mauves" era molto famoso nel secolo scorso, persino sulla tavola degli zar. In questa annata 2022, il Syrah è ben strutturato e ha un equilibrio piuttosto fresco

Profumo
Fragrante, con aromi minerali (grafite) insieme a note di ribes, violetta e spezie.

Pesce con salse forti, selvaggina piccola, agnello, filetto di manzo al pepe rosso, prosciutto iberico, formaggi dolci e formaggi di capra.

Vigna e preparazione

Clima
Un'annata 2022 intensa in generale, con siccità e temperature alte, anche se gennaio è stato freddo. La primavera è arrivata piano piano, con la pioggia più bassa dal 1959. A giugno c'è stata la prima ondata di caldo, quindi la potatura è stata ridotta al minimo per far sì che l'ombra delle foglie proteggesse l'acidità naturale dell'uva. Vinificazione
Diraspato completamente. Fermentazione lenta in piccoli serbatoi di cemento. Il processo è lungo e dura più di un mese.
Invecchiamento
100% in barrique nuove o leggermente usate di rovere, da 12 a 14 mesi.

Decanter:

Very darkly coloured. Meaty, bloody charcoal notes, along with melted-down blackberries and a touch of damson. Full-bodied but not massive, this is a very grand, savoury style that is extremely concentrated and promises great complexity. Structured with forthright acidity and bold, grippy tannins, just a bit too bold, perhaps. Not the most refined but this is still an excellent wine. 10% whole bunch.

Jeb Dunnuck:

The 2022 Saint Joseph Les Granits is gorgeous as well, with plenty of blackberry, crushed stone, and peppery notes in a full-bodied, concentrated profile. Fermented with 10% stems and aged in just 20% new oak, it has the fresher, focused, slightly more linear style of the vintage (and of the estate today) and is going to benefit from bottle age.

Matured 50% in barrels (30% in large barrels and 20% in 1,200-liter foudres), the 2022 Saint-Joseph Les Granits exudes an austere, reduced bouquet of violet, lilac, chocolate and iris mingled with abundant spicy notes. Medium to full-bodied, dense and concentrated with a structured, assertive tannic frame, it's solid and rich with bitterness in the finish enhanced by peppery notes. More charming than Crozes-Ermitage Les Varonniers, this is a rather somber Saint-Joseph.
